Concern from a client...

the concern - Hi Caryn!
How are you? I first want to thank you for all your uplifting and motivating thoughts and quotes. I have a question and a concern. I recently measured myself and according to the waist and hip ratio I am obese. I am 5'2 and weigh 115lbs. They say I am an "apple" shape which is the most harmful. I know I carry all my weight in my stomach. I am pretty skinny in all other areas of my body except upper arms and stomach. So....I have been working really hard with my exercising and eating right. I just don't think I will ever lose the pouch and will always be considered obese. I am just really discourage and need some insight from my coach. :)
Thanks! Have a good day.

My response -
My dear ! I know exactly how you feel! I'm here to tell you that you will have success if you continue to work hard. The journey to achieving your fitness goals is a box full of puzzle pieces. Journey is an appropriate description! Most of us are overweight because we believe we just weren't given the right genes, or we're this way and we'll be this way. I thought the exact same thoughts! I have far surpassed my initial goals and have amazed myself! I am still working to achieve those defined abs and burn more fat from my arms, but I have come so very far!

The key is to be consistent and when something isn't working or stops working don't give up, just get smarter! I lost 45 lbs with turbo jam. That was more than I'd hoped! I started to yo-yo 10 pounds up & 10 down. I would work out really hard and get down to 143ish and then feel the need to reward myself with treats! For me one treat is never enough. One turns into a week or more of "rewarding" myself. That's how I'd go up 10 pounds. I got that under control with the help of "the End of Overeating" by David Kessler. He gave me the tools I need to control myself. This is just one example of finding a puzzle piece instead of giving up.

We all have a genetic make up that somewhat determines out physique. Your dream physique is 80% nutrition, 10% exercise, & 10% genetics. The women on my mother's side have an "eternal pouch." It's obvious in the photos dating back a long time. However, with proper nutrition and hard work I am making progress! Each time I get discouraged I start measuring my portions again and realize I've been getting more generous over time. As soon as I wisely watch my portions my progress picks up.

Tell me what exercise you are doing. It is so fascinating to me how smart we can exercise! It's all about the puzzle pieces! Turn your frustration into determination!

I'm so glad you wrote! I empathize with how you are feeling! You can change those measurements and enjoy every workout & meal along the way!!
much love from your coach!
